Bulldogs fall in extra time after Aggies last minute goal sends match to OT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team loses a heart breaker, 2-3 (OT), to the University of California, Davis Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (0-3) were defeated in overtime by the Aggies (1-1) in the third and final game of the California road trip.

The action started when Danielle Koehne finished a rebound off Bryant goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa.) to put UC Davis up, 1-0, in the 6th minute.

Sophomore Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Mass.) responded for the Bulldogs in the 26th minute, going unassisted and leaving the score tied at the half.

Well into the second half, forward Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) notched her third goal of the season and second score of the match for the Bulldogs. Danby was in position to clean up a shot from senior defender Nicole Plante (Smithfield, R.I.) that bounced off the near post.

With nearly a minute left in regulation, Agustina Singh beat Elizardo to the right, tying the game, 2-2, and sending the match into overtime.

After 15 minutes of extra time, the Aggies ended up on top after Jamie Garcia went unassisted off a reflection from a Bryant defender.

The Bulldogs tallied six shots on the game with freshman Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) leading the stat with a pair of attempts.

Elizardo played the first half of the match, stopping two of three shots on goal by the Aggies. Senior Jenna Limone (Branford, Conn.) played the second half and extra time for the Bulldogs, tallying five saves on the day.

The Black and Gold return home for a matchup against Colgate on Saturday, September 5 at noon at Brown University.
