Bulldogs fall in conference opener against Quinnipiac Friday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In its MAAC season opener, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to Quinnipiac, 4-0, on the road on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-10, 0-1) held the Bobcats (4-8, 1-0) to a single goal in the first half, after Meghan McCullough scored in the 20th minute off of a Quinnipiac penalty corner.

The Black and Gold could not find a response to the Bobcats' attack in the second half and allowed three more opponent scores. Quinnipiac advanced their lead to two, when Dayna Barlo connected with Lily Shemo for the Bobcat score. In the 45th minute, Felicia Costanzo found the back off the cage off of the assist from McCullough, resulting in a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats found their fourth and final goal, when Lauren Belskie capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity in the 67th minute.

The Bulldogs placed eight of 11 shots on frame, with senior Bronwyn Walton (North Vancouver, B.C.) and junior Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) leading the team with three attempts apiece.

Freshman Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) finished the match with four saves, while Quinnipiac's keeper Megan Conaboy recorded seven.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when they travel to take on Columbia at 1 p.m.
