Bulldogs drop road trip match, 5-0, aginast the Lions Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In their second road trip of the week, the Bryant University field hockey team was held scoreless by Columbia, losing 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (6-5) were quick to strike, finding their first score in the 4th minute of play, when Christina Freibott finished a penalty corner opportunity.

Columbia advanced their lead to two, after a ball was served long in to Katie Ruesterholz from Freibott in the 22nd minute.

In the second half, the Bulldogs (2-11) were unlucky, when Freibott notched her second goal of the game off a deflection from a Bryant defender's stick.

The Lions tallied their fourth score in the 63rd minute off a penalty corner. Rebecca Bard serviced the ball for a stick stop by Freibott, who set up Maeve Doherty for the goal.

Freibott recorded a hat trick in the match, scoring her third and final goal off a Lions' penalty with seconds remaining.

Freshman Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa.) logged five saves, while Lions' keeper Kimberly Pianucci tallied two.

The Bulldogs finished with five shots, placing three on frame from senior Mikayla Fitzmaurice (Skowhegan, Maine), junior Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) and classmate Erin Karcher (Kennet Square, Pa.).
