Bulldogs held scoreless by the Tigers, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - In the shadow of Friday's, 2-1, shootout loss, the Bryant University field hockey team was held scoreless by Pacific, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in Hanover.

The Tigers (1-3) got going early, taking the 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs (0-6) in the 14th minute, when Ash Rutherford found Marguerite van Wyk for the redirection on the opening score of the game. Pacific pushed its lead to two, as van Wyk tallied her second goal of the day off the penalty corner from Hannah Tvergyak and Emma Leach in the 26th minute.

Just over a minute later, Ali Campos settled the ball in the circle and turned and shot, placing the goal past sophomore Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) for the Tigers' 3-0 edge. After notching the assist on van Wyk's second goal, Tvergyak found one of her own just before the end of the first half, collecting the ball before turning to rip a backhanded shot into the top of cage (4-0).

That didn't end the Tigers' attack, as they scored once more in the second half to help Pacific to a 5-0 victory. With six minutes to play in the contest, Tayler Silacci capitalized on her positioning, poking home a loose ball between the legs of Elizardo

The sophomore keeper finished with three saves in 70 minutes of play, while the team finished with three total shots, including a look from senior Jessica Fleet (Londonderry, N.H.), sophomore Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) and sophomore Leyna DiMarco (Glastonbury, Conn.)

The Tigers countered the Black and Gold with 20 shots, as Marguerite van Wyk converting 2-of-3 attempts for Pacific scores. Starting keeper Laura Pujade collected two saves on the day in nearly 66 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs turn their attention next to the Black Bears, as they travel to Maine on Friday, September 16, for a 4 p.m. start.
