Bulldogs face 4-0 deficit against Hawks on Friday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team fell to the MAAC's top-ranked Monmouth, 4-0, on the road on Friday afternoon.

The Hawks (13-2, 4-0 MAAC) got off to an early start as freshman Josephine van der Hoop poked a loose ball in the circle into the back of the cage in the third minute, totaling the forward's sixth goal of the season. Monmouth took a 2-0 edge over the Bulldogs (3-12, 3-2) at intermission after senior Alyssa Ercolino found her double-digit score of the season with a deflection off junior Julie Laszlo's shot in the 22nd minute.

The Hawks tacked on two more in the second half, including Laszlo's score off a corner five minutes into the second half. Senior Casey Hanna assisted Laszlo on her 12th goal of the season as Laszlo maintains her position as the MAAC's top point scorer. Junior Meg Donahue earned the Hawks' final goal after she finished Laszlo's long ball into the short side in the 48th minute to secure the host's 4-0 win.

Sophomore Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) totaled two of Bryant's five shots in the game, while the Hawks fired off 24, led by Laszlo's five. Sophomore Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa.) recorded five saves in her 70 minutes of play, while Monmouth's junior keeper Christen Piersanti notched two. The Hawks were awarded 16 corners, in which they scored two goals off of, while Bryant only received one that came in the second half.

The Bulldogs return home for their final conference game on Sunday, when they host Siena on Senior Day at the Goldberger Family Field at 1 p.m.
