Bulldogs receive Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award for the nation's fourth highest GPA

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team complimented its success on the field this season with national recognition in the classroom, receiving a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award after ranking fourth in the country with a 3.57 team GPA.

The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

"I'm very proud of how committed to excellence our team is in the classroom, on the field and in the weight room," said head coach Shaunessy Saucier. "The amount of time and effort our team puts in keeps us consistently in the top-five performers in Division I, and is a source of pride for our team."

The Bulldogs joined Brown (3.78), Hofstra (3.67), Virginia Commonwealth (3.58), American (3.56), Ball State (3.56) and Temple (3.56) in the top-five rankings.

Along with national recognition, all 16 Bulldogs that qualified were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team in the fall after holding a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
