Bryant field hockey picked to finish third in MAAC poll

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team was picked to finish third by the coaches of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the league's preseason poll, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. The Bulldogs also placed one on the Preseason All-MAAC Team.

The Bulldogs were ranked behind Monmouth and Fairfield, who each received three first place votes. Rounding out the six-team poll is Rider, Sacred Heart, and LIU Brooklyn, respectively.

Senior Victoria Newbill (Wilton, Maine) was the lone Bulldog to be picked for the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Newbill is coming off of a stellar 2017 season as she started all 19 games for the Bulldogs. Last season she was named First Team All-MAAC and finished the season with eight points, scoring two goals and recording four assists. Newbill was also one of 32 field hockey players from across the country to be selected for the USA Field Hockey Young Women's National Championship and Development Junior National Camp for the second straight year.

Bryant will be returning 12 players from last season, including seniors Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.)Leyna DiMarco (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Haley Wood (Brownsville, Vt.)

Bryant opens their season on Friday, August 24 at UMass Lowell. The full 2018 schedule can be viewed HERE.
