Monmouth's offensive force proved too much for Bulldogs

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – During an eventful conference match-up, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to Monmouth, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon.

"Monmouth is a great team and executed very well. On a positive note, we scored twice, but we also gave up soft goals. We need to keep improving on that before we take on Northeastern on Tuesday."

In the 28th minute of play, the Bulldogs turned the ball over and Monmouth was able to capitalize on it and take the lead in which they never surrendered.

Scoring Summary

  • 11' – Monmouth 1, Bryant 0 – Georgia Garden Bachop netted the first goal for the Hawks as Elyssa Okken played the ball in from the end line that went across the cage for Garden Bachop to tap it in.
  • 28' – Monmouth 2, Bryant 0 – As the Bulldogs turned the ball over, Okken tallied her second assist as she passed the ball to Annick van Lange who found the back of the net.
  • 34' – Bryant 1, Monmouth 2 – Off of a corner, Pia Klupp (Hamburg, Germany) fired a ball that found Ally Burdick's (Cambridge, N.Y.) stick. Burdick batted the ball down and into the net.
  • 35' – Monmouth 3, Bryant 1 – Quickly after Bryant's first goal, Ireen Frenken played the ball into the circle as Kelly Hanna scored the third Hawk goal.
  • 43' – Monmouth 4, Bryant 1 – A few minutes into the second half, Garden Bachop passed the ball off to Hanna who was able to fire the ball into the cage.
  • 48' – Bryant 2, Monmouth 4 – Emily Perryman (Lebanaon, N.H.) took a shot that was saved by the Hawk keeper. Haley Wood (Brownsville, Vt.) immediately got the rebound and tapped the ball into the net to cut Monmouth's lead in half.
  • 53' – Monmouth 5, Bryant 2 – Stefanie Bigler played the ball to van Lange into the circle. Van Lange took a one-touch shot that made its way past the Bulldog defense.
  • 70' – Monmouth 6, Bryant 2 – In the final play of the game, Lotte Boom scored off of penalty corner.

Stats/Notables

  • The Bulldogs were outshot 33-5 as the Hawks put 18 of those shots on frame.
  • Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) and Lyndsay Swanston (Burlington, Ont.) shared minutes in the cage today as they both compiled six saves each.
  • Burdick netted her third goal of the season off of a pass from Klupp, and Wood put away her first goal of her senior season.
  • Perryman fired the most shots for the Bulldogs with two while Burdick, Wood, and Klupp each added a shot as well.
