Temple tops Bulldogs, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After one half of scoreless play, Temple netted two quick goals in the third quarter to top the Bryant University field hockey team, 2-0, in Philly.

"We connected a lot of passes tonight and fought for the full 60 minutes, which is a big step for this team," stated de Vries. "We look forward to building on that progress and competing on Sunday."

KEY MOMENT

  • In the third quarter, the Owls found the back of the net off two separate penalty corners to help gain the advantage.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) made back-to-back saves during a penalty corner and deflecting the ball back in play. Claire Thomas took advantage of the loose ball and tapped it into the cage for the first goal of the game, 1-0.
  • During another penalty corner, Temple's Nienke Orlemans served it to Lucy Reed at the top of the circle. Tail Popinko then fired the ball past the Bryant defenders to widen the margin, 2-0.

STATS/NOTES

  • Junior Aisling Madden (Leeds, Yorkshire, England) led the Bulldogs with three shots. Madden tied with Eva Bazen (The Hague, Netherlands), Clare Luttrell (Freehold, N.J.), and Taryn Rauff (Johannesburg, South Africa) with one shot on goal.
  • Jaarsma tallied seven saves tying her season-best. The last time Jaarsma recorded seven saves was in Bryant's season opener at Lock Haven.
  • The Bulldogs posted a season-high of six penalty corners, which marks the most penalty corners that Bryant has notched since last season at LIU when the Black and Gold tallied 11.
  • Despite Bryant tallying a season-high of eight goals, the Owls outshot the Bulldogs, 16-8.
  • Temple now leads Bryant in the all-time series record, 2-1.
