Bulldogs fall to UAlbany, 4-2, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University field hockey team fell to UAlbany, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Bryant University Field Hockey Complex.

Sunday's game was Bryant's first America East contest of the year.

Key Moment

  • Alison Smidsom scored two goals in a seven-minute span to give the Great Danes a 3-1 lead.     

How it Happened

  • UAlbany got on the board first as Delphine Le Jeune scored on a penalty stroke.
  • Bryant nearly knotted the game on a penalty stroke but Lara Behn made a toe save.
  • Moments later, however, Bryant broke through. Olivia Clarke played the ball up field and Taryn Rauff was able to fire a reverse through the goalies five-hole to tie it.
  • UAlbany broke the tie with a penalty corner with just eight seconds left in the third quarter. Smidson's shot was able to find the back of the net.
  • Smidsom then made it 3-1 as her shot got through the Bryant defense. 
  • The Great Danes made it 4-1 as Jannelle Volk intercepted a pass and finished in the 1-on-1 situation.
  • Bryant didn't go away, as Lauren Rothwell fed Natalie Brown who was able to fire home a shot to make it 4-2.

Bryant Notes and Notables

  • Bryant was playing an America East team in Smithfield for the first time in program history.
  • Bryant's two goals on Sunday were the first two goals it has scored against UAlbany in eight meetings.
  • Rauff scored her second goal of the season and the 17th of her career. She has 40 career points.
  • Brown has now scored in back-to-back games. 
  • Abby Crowley made her second start in net, stopping seven shots.
