Bulldogs suffer heartbreaking 3-2 loss at Maine

ORONO, Maine -- Lotte Guitink scored a pair of first-half goals but Maine rallied back, scoring the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left to hand the Bryant University field hockey team a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat on Friday afternoon.

First Quarter

  • Guitink gave Bryant an early lead on a penalty corner.
  • Emma Rothkopf was able to move the ball to the middle of the circle and Guitink swatted it home.
  • Dieneke Hes made two stellar saves in the first 15 minutes. 

Second Quarter

  • Bryant was able to deny the Black Bears on four penalty corners, with Hes making two stops.
  • The Black and Gold then doubled their lead with just over a minute left.
  • Taryn Rauff inserted to Brittany Gouws who handed it off to Guitink. Guitink dribbled left and flicked it past the keeper inside the near post.

Third Quarter

  • Maine wasted little time rallying, converting on a penalty corner just 58 seconds into the period.
  • Seven minutes later, the Black Bears tied the score with another penalty corner.

Fourth Quarter

  • Hes kept the game tied with a beautiful toe save on a redirection in front.
  • Bryant then had a penalty corner with two minutes remaining. Guitink was able to feed Rauff in front but her reversal was stopped.
  • The Black Bears were able to regroup and then convert in transition. Madisyn Hartley received a perfect pass and tucked it away with 32 seconds left.

  • The Bulldogs have scored multiple goals in each of their last five games.
  • Guitink has now scored in back-to-back games and has three goals on the season.
  • Guitink now has 11 career goals and 28 career points. 
  • Rauff picked up her third assist of the season, matching her career high.
  • Emma Rothkopf now has three assists on the season.
  • Hes finished the game with a season-high 10 saves.
