Bryant blanks Hofstra, 2-0, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Taryn Rauff and Natalie Griffin scored goals and Dieneke Hes posted three saves to earn her first collegiate shutout as the Bryant University field hockey team blanked Hofstra, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bryant Field Hockey Complex.

The shutout is Bryant's first October 24, 2021 when it blanked LIU, 1-0. Bryant has also won six games for the sixth time in DI program history and for the first time since the 2013 season.

  • Rauff scored to give Bryant a 1-0 lead in the second quarter.    

First Quarter

  • Bryant challenged early but Hella Vorpagel was able to make three stops in net for Hofstra.

Second Quarter

  • The Black and Gold broke through four minutes into the second quarter.
  • Olivia Clarke was able to slide the ball over to Rauff who swatted it home.

Third Quarter

  • Hes posted a pair of saves in to keep Bryant ahead after three.

Fourth Quarter

  • Brittany Gouws made a great defensive save to keep it 1-0.
  • Bryant then doubled its lead with a penalty corner. Gouws stopped the insert and Griffin was able to tip home Emma Rothkopf's drive from the top.

  • Bryant is now 2-2 all-time against Hofstra.
  • The shutout is Bryant's first since Oct. 24, 2021.
  • Rauff scored her fourth goal of the season and the 19th of her career.
  • She now has 13 points this season and 47 in her career.
  • Griffin posted her third goal of the season and now has 10 points (3g, 4a).
  • Hes posted three saves to earn her first collegiate shutout.
  • Clarke's assist gives her eight points (3g, 2a) on the year.
  • Rothkopf now is tied for the team lead with five assists. She has seven points.
  • Gouws now has 15 points (6g, 3a) and two defensive saves on the year.

Bryant closes out the season with a pair of games next weekend at the Bryant Field Hockey Complex. The Bulldogs will face Stanford on Friday (3pm) and UC Davis on Sunday (12pm).
