Starks named USBWA All-District I selection

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After leading the Northeast Conference in scoring and guiding the Bryant University men's basketball team to its best finish yet at the Division I level, senior guard Dyami Starks (Duluth, Minn.) has been named a USBWA All-District selection, as announced Tuesday.

Starks is the only member of the NEC recognized by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), averaging 18.6 points per game for the Bulldogs, who finished the season 16-15 overall and advanced to the NEC Semifinals for the first time in program history.

A senior captain in 2014-15, Starks earned his third-straight all-conference recognition, garnering All-NEC First Team honors for the first time in his final season. The Minnesota native finished the year with more than 500 points (577) for the third-consecutive season in Smithfield and has led the team in scoring average all three years spent at Bryant after transferring from Columbia as a sophomore.

Deadly from long distance, Starks ranks 10th in the nation in treys per game as a senior (3.16), finishing the year with 98 triples and a .343 shooting clip from beyond the arc. In just three seasons with the Bulldogs, he converted 281 shots from 3-point land, good for fourth all-time in the program records (tops in Division I era) and sixth on the Northeast Conference's all-time list. He finishes his collegiate career with 300 trifectas, good for seventh among all active players.

On the 2014-15 campaign, Starks shot 37.7 percent from the floor with an impressive .913 mark from the free throw line, a number that ranks sixth in the country and tops in Bryant's single-season record books. He added 47 assists, 27 steals and seven blocks while averaging 38.2 minutes per game (seventh nationally).

Starks paced the Black and Gold in scoring 20 times this season (44 in Bryant career) and has been limited to single digits just twice in 2014-15. The sharpshooter graduates with 1,691 points in a Bulldog uniform and 1,779 points in his collegiate career.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District Teams are based on voting from its national membership of 900-plus. The USBWA has selected All-District Teams since the 1956-57 season.
