Bulldogs fall to Cincinnati on Sunday night

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Bryant University men's basketball team fell to the University of Cincinnati, 73-58, on Sunday night at Fifth Third Arena.

Bryant had the game tied 35-35 with 17:20 left in the second half but the Bearcats went on a 15-2 run and never looked back. Sunday was the Bulldogs' second-straight against a team from the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

Peter Kiss led three players in double figures with 15. He added five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Chris Childs chipped in 14 and Hall Elisias added 11 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Charles Pride posted nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

  • After Pride scored five straight to tie the score, the Bearcats answered with a 15-2 run that spanned 8:43.       

How it Happened

  • Bryant showed incredible toughness early on Sunday, holding the Bearcats without a field goal for the first 7:30.
  • In doing so, Bryant jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Elisias completed a three-point play and Kiss scored five points.
  • The teams would then trade the lead during the middle stages of the first half, with Elisias giving Bryant a 12-11 lead with a thunderous two-hand slam.
  • Childs then hit a transition three to give the Bulldogs a 17-15 lead at the under-8 media.
  • He followed with another three at the 6:32 mark to make it 20-18.
  • The Bearcats, however, answered with a 9-2 run to take a 27-22 lead with 5:00 to go.
  • A turnaround jumper from Kiss and an offensive putback by Greg Calixte brought the Bulldogs within five, 35-30, at the break.
  • Pride quickly got the Bulldogs back even in the second half, scoring five-straight points on a three and an offensive putback.
  • Cincinnati responded with a 5-0 run of its own and after a Childs layup with 14:20 left, held the Bulldogs without a field goal for the next 4:40. The stretch allowed the Bearcats to build an 11-point lead, 48-37, with 9:39 remaining.
  • The Bearcats would build the lead to 16 and hold the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the evening.

  • Bryant finished 19-of-59 (32.2 percent) from the field, 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) from three and 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) from the line.
  • Cincinnati had a slight edge in rebounds, 41-39.
  • Bryant finished with 15 offensive rebounds and had 17 second-chance points.
  • Kiss posted a team-high 15, while Childs finished with 14.
  • Elisias chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and three blocks.
  • Pride scored all nine of his points in the second half and added nine rebounds.
  • Luis Hurtado Jr. grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists in 28 minutes.

Game Notes

  • Bryant and Cincinnati were meeting for the first time in program history.  
  • The Bulldogs are now 0-3 against current members of the American Athletic Conference.  
  • Childs finished in double figures for the sixth time this year and the 23rd time in his career.
  • Kiss scored in double figures for the 26th time in 29 career games as a Bulldog. It is the 54th double-figure scoring game of his career.
  • Elisias blocked three shots and has at least three swats in six games this year.
  • Pride now has 653 career points, 15th in Bryant DI program history.
