Bryant heads to UMBC on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's basketball team wraps up its two-game road swing when it heads to Baltimore to face UMBC on Saturday. Tip is set for 1:02 p.m.

THE SERIES
Bryant and UMBC are meeting for the second time this season. The Retrievers won the first meeting, 81-73, on Jan. 8 in Smithfield. Bryant came within a point with 2:00 left but UMBC closed the game on a 9-2 run. Antwan Walker posted a double-double in the defeat. 

WELCOME TO THE AMERICA EAST
Bryant is 7-4 in America East play this season. The Bulldogs are 5-1 at home and 2-3 on the road in league play. Bryant has five games remaining in the league slate.   

PRIDE TIES STEALS RECORD
Charles Pride tied the DI program record for career steals on Wednesday at UAlbany. Pride now has 140 steals, tied with Ikenna Ndugba for the most in DI program history.  

SHERIF IS IN
Sherif Gross-Bullock scored the first 12 points of the game on Wednesday at UAlbany. He went on to finish with 23 points and five assists. SGB now has eight 20-point games this season. 

FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW

  1. Bryant is 16-8 overall and 7-4 in league play following the 87-62 win over UAlbany on Wednesday. Bryant has now won three-straight games.    
  2. Earl Timberlake ranks 9th in the America East in scoring and third in rebounding entering Saturday. He is averaging 13.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg and 3.5 apg over his last three.
  3. Antwan Walker was a human highlight reel on Wednesday, producing a pair of majestic slams. Walker's windmill dunk landed at No. 5 on the #SCTop10 on Feb. 9.    
  4. In addition to his 140 career steals, Pride is also nearing 1,500 career points. He is 25 points shy of becoming the 11th player in program history to reach the milestone. 
  5. Saturday will serve as a small homecoming for several Bulldogs. Bryant has six players that reside within 70 miles of Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Tyler Brelsford is the closest, as Ellicott City, Md., is just six miles from UMBC's campus.
