Bulldogs fall to Vermont, 67-57

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's basketball team fell to the University of Vermont, 67-57, on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

The loss snaps Bryant's five-game winning streak and gives the Catamounts sole possession of first place in the America East at 6-0. Bryant is now 13-8 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Bryant struggled from the field for the second-straight game, going 21-of-51 from the field and just 2-of-12 from three. Earl Timberlake led three Bulldogs in double-figures with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Sherif Gross-Bullock and Rafael Pinzon each finished with 12 points.

How it Happened

  • Bryant was able to jump out an 8-2 start on Saturay afternoon. Brelsford used a brilliant spin move to socre the first points.
  • Timberlake kept it 8-2 at the under-16 with a big block.
  • Vermont came out with a surge after the break, going on a 14-4 run to take 16-12 lead with 10:45 play.
  • The Black and Gold were able to chip away thanks to a strong start from Timberlake. The Washington, D.C., native raced across the lane for a lefty hook to give Bryant a 18-16 lead.
  • UVM was able to tie it but Pinzon answered with a transition three to make it 21-18.
  • The Catamounts were able to grab the lead by the half as Bryant went just 1-of-8 from the field following the Pinzon three.
  • UVM took the lead as Jace Roquemore scored twice at the rim, making it 26-22.
  • The Bulldogs were able to make it 28-25 on a basket inside from Brelsford.
  • UVM then took control of the game as it scored the first nine points of the second half to open a 12-point lead, 37-25.
  • The Catamounts would eventually take a 39-27 lead into the under-16 media.
  • UVM kept a double-digit lead into the under-12 media despite the best efforts of Doug Edert. After hitting a runner, Edert banked in a 35-foot three to pull Bryant within nine.
  • The Catamounts, however, had answers each time, pushing the lead to 45-34 with 10:54 left.
  • Vermont pushed its lead to 17, 53-36, on a TJ Long three with 8:12 to go.
  • Bryant was able to get back to 11 before a Hurley three retored a 14-point edge for UVM with 5:30 to play.
  • The Bulldogs would cut it to 10 before Deloney finished an and-1 with 4:00 to play, making it 59-46.
  • Vermont would keep the lead in double-figures the rest of the way to close out the victory.
