Buschmann paces Bryant at Connecticut Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) shot a two-under par 70 in the first round of the Connecticut Cup and sits tied for second in the individual standings, as the Bryant University golf team enters second-round action in fifth overall.

Sophomore John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) both finished Monday action tied for 26th in the standings, carding a three-over 75 in the opening round, while sophomore McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and junior Nicholas Marotta (Orange, N.Y.) came in two strokes behind with 77s to tie for 45th entering the second of three laps.

As a team, the Bulldogs carded a 297 (+9) and sit fifth in the 15-team field. Bryant sits just one stroke back from St. Peters in fourth, while host UConn leads the way with a four-under 284. Hartford currently ranks second with a one-under 287, while fellow Northeast Conference member Sacred Heart is third after first-round play (291).

Action continues at the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday.
