Roberts leads Bulldogs at NEIGAs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) was the Bulldogs' top finisher Monday, as the Bryant University golf team wrapped up fall action at the 80th Annual NEIGA Championship in Brewster, Mass.

Roberts tied for 14th among all Division I participants, carding a 76 in the second round to finish with a two-day 154 (+10). Junior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) improved upon his Sunday score by three strokes but finished tied for 22nd after a Monday 77 (157), while sophomore McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) scored a 78 to total 158 on the tournament (T27th).

Junior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) dropped from 11th into a tie for 27th after carding an 81 in the final round of action (77-81=158), and sophomore Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) finished 35th in the DI field despite improving his day one score by seven strokes (88-81=169).

As a team, the Bulldogs dropped one place, finishing seventh in the Division I field with a two-round 627 (315-312) and 12th among all 37 participating squads. Fairfield won the overall and Division I team titles with a two-day total of 601 (+25), with UMass Lowell taking second overall. URI and Bentley shared third-place overall honors, with Central Connecticut and Holy Cross (612) rounding out the top five. CCSU's Matt Hills was the individual Division I winner (146), while Bentley's Malcolm Oliver was the overall medalist (143).
