Tombs, Bulldogs finish second at 2015 Northeast Conference Championship

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) carded the highest score of the third and final round at the 2015 Northeast Conference Championship, earning a second-place individual finish while leading the Bryant University golf team to a second-place finish of its own Sunday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Tombs finished just two strokes over par (74-72-72=218) and one stroke behind individual champion George Williams of LIU Brooklyn (217). The Bulldogs carded a team score of 304 to complete the tournament with a total of 906 (+42), but Bryant couldn't overcome three-round leader Robert Morris, who closed out the NEC title with a Sunday 295 (892, +28).

Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU Brooklyn would tie for third in the team standings (917), with Central Connecticut (929) taking fifth in the nine-team field. Wagner (933), Saint Francis U. (935), Sacred Heart (947) and St. Francis Brooklyn (1057) completed the tournament finishers.

Bryant saw a trio of golfers finish inside the top-10, with junior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) taking ninth after a three-day 228 (74-78-76), while classmate Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) tied for 10th one a stroke behind (74-77-78).

Sophomore McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) carded a three-round 234 (72-84-78) to finish tied for 19th in the 45-golfer field, while classmate John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 25th after a Sunday 79 capped off his three-round 238.
