Tombs earns first NEC weekly award of the spring season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University golfer Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Tombs opened up his spring season by posting a tying for second place on the individual leader board at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. The third-year Bulldog carded a two-round 146 score to spearhead his team's fifth-place showing. The Bedford, N.H., native shot a round of 75 (+3) on the par-72 course, standing in 13th place following the first day of the event. Tombs made an enormous leap up the standings by posting an under-par performance on the second day. Registering a 1-under 71, Tombs was the lone golfer out of 57 competitors to shoot under par in the second round. His second-place overall finish ties his highest career placement.

The Bulldogs return to competition on April 2nd and 3rd at the Towson Spring Invitational in Grasonville, Md.
