Bulldogs finish seventh, Slade cards second-best score at Towson Spring Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team shot a second-round 316, 28-over par on day two of the Towson Spring Invitational, dropping three spots to finish seventh in Grasonville, Md.

The Bulldogs struggled on the second and final day. After an opening-round 302 on the par-72 course they found themselves tied for third, but added 14 strokes to their overall score, finishing with a 618 (+42). The Black and Gold finished 13 strokes behind the leaders in Georgetown. The Hoyas shot a 309 on Tuesday (+21) to overtake the leaders after day one in Drexel, which finished second carding a 609 (+33).

Junior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) led all golfers on day two with a 71, one-under par to jump up 12 spots, slotting up to second on the leader board. Slade ended up carding a complete 146, one stroke behind Drexel's Christopher Crawford, who ended day one with a 69 but shot a 76 on Tuesday. Slade was the only golfer to shoot at or under par on the second and final day of the invitational.

Fellow junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.), the reigning Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week, found himself tied for third after Monday's round with an even-par 72, but he lost 15 strokes on Tuesday with an 87 (+15) to finish tied for 41st. Senior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) moved up five spots on the leader board to finish 22nd with a second-round 78, six-over par. Freshman Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) carded an 81 on Tuesday to finish with a 163, nine-over par, tying him for 60th, while senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) fell 29 spots after a day-two 86 to finish tied for 62nd with a 164, 14-over par.

The Bulldogs are back in action in two weeks when they stay close to home in the Rhode Island Invitational in North Kingstown, played on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday the 19th.
