Bulldogs lose five strokes, remain in second after day two of NEC Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team shot a 293, five-over par on day two of the Northeast Conference Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., but remained in second place despite losing five strokes from their opening round score of 288.

Four Bulldogs remain inside the top-20 of the 45-player field, led by juniors McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.), who both sit tied for fourth at 144, even par. Slade lost three strokes with a day-two 75 (+3), but tombs jumped up six spots with his second-straight round of even par. Senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) shot a 73, one-over par to sit tied for 12th after day one, and he has the same result in round two, but is now tied for 11th. Junior John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) jumped up six spots following his day two of 73 (+1) to sit tied for 19th.

Wagner college still holds the overall lead with a 572, four-under par through two rounds, nine strokes ahead of the Bulldogs. The Seahawks' Lucas Moreno is the overall leader with back-to-back rounds of 70 (-4). Perhaps the largest move of the day was Wagner's Anton Frondelius, who was in first following day one (-5), but he fell to 19th after a second-round 82 (+10) to sit at five-over par.

The Bulldogs will have a tall order ahead of them with nine strokes to make up on Sunday, and will also need to worry about Sacred Heart trailing at 586, 10-over par.
