Bulldog alum Jason Thresher ('10) wins 107th Massachusetts Open title
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University golf alum Jason Thresher ('10) captured his first major professional title Wednesday, winning the 107th Massachusetts Open Championship after a three-hole aggregate playoff.
The three-round event, played this year at Worcester Country Club, saw Thresher card a four-under par 206 to enter into a two-man playoff with Mark Stevens. But Thresher, the former Northeast Conference Golfer of the Year and two-time PING Division I All-Region selection, ran away with the playoff after par and birdie shots on the first two holes, sealing his first post-graduate tournament win.
Thresher led the field after the first two rounds, carding a three-under 67 Monday and a one-under 69 Tuesday to enter the final round of action with a one-stroke lead. After starting the third lap three-over par, Thresher recovered nicely through the final 15 holes, playing three-under golf to force the two-man playoff.
