Roberts, Bulldogs win weekend dual match over CCSU

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With a Sunday 279 and a two-day, four-under-par finish, the Bryant University golf team solidified its dual match victory over Central Connecticut State University behind an individual win from senior John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.).

Roberts climbed one spot with a tournament-best round of 68 Sunday, clinching the victory on the individual circuit with a two-day 139 to finish three under par on the weekend. A pair of Bulldog rookies in Will Del Biaggio (San Jose, Calif.) and Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) tied in the second spot after carding identical scores of 141 (71-70, -1), while senior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) claimed sixth place after a Sunday 71 (145, +3).

Senior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) shot a 74 Sunday to finish tied with teammate and freshman Payton Kim (Palatine, Ill.) in the seventh spot with two-round scores of 146 (+4). Kim was playing as an individual.

The Blue Devils saw their top scorers, Anthony Sebastianelli and Brandon Raine, finish in fourth and fifth, respectively, despite the latter entering the day in the top spot. Nick DiReda, playing as an individual, was CCSU's next finisher in ninth (147), with Drew Aitken and Arthur Ovimet tying for 10th (151). Matthew Mahlke rounded out the field in 12th (156).

CCSU shot a 291 as a team Sunday afternoon, finishing the dual match with a 588 (+20). The Bulldogs shot a combined team score of 564 (-4).

Bryant is back on the green Oct. 10-11, when the Bulldogs participate in the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn.
