Bulldogs stand third after first day of Lonnie Barton Invitational

Results

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Graduate student John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) shot a 71 to tie for second through 18 holes and help the Bryant University men's golf team to a third-place standing after the first day of the Lonnie Barton Invitational Monday at LPGA International.

Eight of the nine NEC teams are competing in the event with the Bulldogs leading the group. The tournament is being played at the site of this year's NEC Championship.

COACH BLANCHARD'S COMMENTS
 "We had a nice start to the spring season, coming out of the winter with only a couple of rounds under our belts. The guys played solid, but we had a few mental mistakes that cost us. John Roberts was excellent, firing a one-under to put himself in the hunt for the individual title. Connor Henderson and Matthew Stafford had very good rounds at three-over. We need to build on our round from today."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roberts shot a 71 (-1) to be one of four golfers tied for second, two shots back of individual leader Eric Brinker of Fort Wayne.
  • Sophomores Connor Henderson (Southborough, Mass.) and Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) each carded a 75 (+3) to stand tied for 20th entering Tuesday.
  • Junior Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Payton Kim (Palatine, Ill.) each recorded a 79 (+7) to place themselves 48th through 18 holes. Kim is playing as an individual this week.
  • Junior Jake Ratti (Hanover, Mass.) shot an 81 (+9) and stands tied for 59th.
  • Five of the eight NEC teams competing are separated by five strokes.
