Bryant looks for 2-0 start against tough Bucknell side Sunday at noon in Taunton, Mass.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team looks to start the 2016 season 2-0 Sunday, as the Bulldogs host a Bucknell side receiving votes in the USILA Preseason Coaches Poll Sunday in Taunton, Mass.

The game, originally slated for Saturday afternoon, will be played Sunday at noon at ForeKicks Indoor Complex to combat the frigid temperatures projected in New England through the weekend.

The Bulldogs (1-0) will face their first big test of the season Sunday against the Bison (1-0), as each team got their 2016 slate off to a strong start a week ago.

Bryant started off its spring campaign with a 16-3 win over Manhattan College at home behind career efforts from junior midfielder Ryan Sharpe (Poway, Calif.) and sophomore attack Cam Ziegler (Carlsbad, Calif.), with each tallying four goals and two assists for six-point days.

The contest also saw the scoring debuts of redshirt-frosh Brady O'Donnell (Smithfield, R.I.) (2 goals, 2 assists), true freshman Kevin Quigley (Fairfax Station, Va.) (1g) and sophomore Trevor Bovich (West Islip, N.Y.) (1g). The trio was among eight Bulldog goal scorers and 10 point getters.

Saturday's opener also saw a stellar faceoff debut from sophomore Kenny Massa (Huntington, N.Y.), who finished the day 19-of-22 with 13 ground balls. But Massa will run into a tougher opponent Sunday in Bucknell newcomer Jarett Witzal, who went 15-for-21 (three ground balls) in his own debut for the Bison.

All-American netminder Gunnar Waldt (Freeland, Md.) will also face a more seasoned attack from Sunday's opponent, who netted double-digit scores in a 13-5 win over Delaware Feb. 6. The Bison featured a balanced attack that saw seven different scorers find real estate between the pipes, led by a hat trick from starting attack Will Sands and Connor O'Hara. The former added two helpers to pace the Bucknell offense on the afternoon. All six starting offensive players found the back of the net in the contest.

Christian Klipstein will protect the Bison goal after a 10-save, complete-game effort against the Blue Hens.

Sunday's game marks the fourth-straight season in which Bryant and Bucknell have matched up, with the Bison owning a slight 2-1 advantage in the series. The road team has never taken home a victory, with the Bulldogs earning a 12-9 win at home back in 2014, bookended by Bison victories in 2013 (10-8) and 2015 (7-5) in Lewisburg, Pa.
