Waldt chosen as one of 25 Tewaaraton Award Semifinalists

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With the 2016 regular season in the books and a defense of its Northeast Conference title looming in next week's tournament, the Bryant University men's lacrosse team will have a Tewaaraton Award Semifinalist between the pipes in senior goalie Gunnar Waldt (Freeland, Md.).

This is Waldt's second semifinalist nod, being named to the list of 25 in 2014. The senior captain will add this to a gaudy resume that features two USILA Third Team All-American nods, and two-straight Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Waldt concluded the season with a NEC leading 10.93 saves per game (18th nationally), a 56.7 save percentage to sit 10th in the country and the 14th-best goals-against average amongst Division I goalies (8.56). The Freeland, Md., native helped guide the Bulldogs to a 10-4 regular season, 5-1 in conference play.

The three-time All-NEC honoree overtook Bryant's all-time saves record earlier this season, as he currently has 727. Waldt was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, taken with the 28th overall pick by the Florida Launch.

This marked the fifth-straight season the Bulldogs had seen a player named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, and Waldt is the only member of the Northeast Conference to make the final 25. He is also one of just four goalies to be named a semifinalist.

The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Five finalists will be announced on May 12, and the winner will be named June 2 at the 16th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
