James, Morrell and Waldt garner NEILA honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After guiding their team to a 10-5 season and share of the Northeast Conference regular-season title, Bryant University men's lacrosse senior captains Shane Morrell (Glen Mills, Pa.) and Gunnar Waldt (Freeland, Md.) and junior attackman Tucker James (Essex Fells, N.J.) have be named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-New England Second Team, as announced on Tuesday, May 10.

Both Morrell and Waldt earn the recognition for the second time, as Waldt makes his third appearance on the NEILA All-New England Team after being named a first teamer in 2014.

Both seniors headlined the six Bulldogs that were named All-NEC Second Team. Morrell finished second on the team with 40 points on 30 goals and 10 assists, and he became Bryant's all-time leader in game-winning goals this season.

Waldt continued to be a brick wall between the pipes in his senior campaign, finishing the regular season with 165 saves, 11.00 per game which was 18th in the nation and tops in the NEC, an 8.45 goals-against average to finish 14th in the country and second in the league and a 57.1 save percentage to finish ninth at the Division I level and also second in the conference.

Morrell finished his career in the top five all-time for Bryant in points (199), assists (66), goals (133), games played (72) and games started (69). Waldt finishes with the most saves in program history (739) and in the top five all time in goals-against average (8.37), games started (61) and wins (40).

The All-NEC First Team selection, James was the leader for the Bulldogs offensively with a career high of 55 points on 33 goals and a personal best of 22 assists, as he led the league with 1.47 helpers per game. James tied the program record for points in a game with 13 (6g, 7a) against Wagner on April 9.
