Kyle Mummau named 2017 Senior CLASS Award candidate

SMIITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University senior captain Kyle Mummau (Carlsbad, Calif.) has been selected as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in men's lacrosse.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Over his four years in Smithfield, Mummau has done just that. A biology major with double minors in business administration and biotechnology, the four-year starting defenseman boasts a 3.75 GPA. A three-time NEC Academic Honor Roll selection and seven-time Dean's List honoree, Mummau has posted term GPAs of over 3.5 in six of seven semesters. Mummau also serves as a peer tutor within Bryant's Academic Center for Excellence in numerous subjects and earned a Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the University of Rhode Island in 2016.

The senior captain has commanded the respect of his teammates and coaches throughout his four years on campus. A three-year SAAC member, Mummau is active in the committee's initiatives throughout the year and heads Bryant's Minis for Many initiative, in which student-athletes collect travel toiletries from hotels during road trips to donate to a local homeless shelter.

A two-time All-NEC First Team selection, Mummau is a 2017 USILA Preseason Honorable Mention All-American who is a four-year starter on defense for the Bulldogs. Consistently the team's top cover defenseman, he has started every game of his career and ranks inside the program's top-12 for career caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship in May.
