Bryant, Vermont square off in America East showdown on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team heads to Burlington, Vermont, on Saturday for an America East showdown with Vermont. Faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

Saturday's game pits the remaining unbeaten teams in league play, as both the Bulldogs and Catamounts enter at 4-0.

THE SERIES
Bryant and UVM have split six all-time meetings. The home team has won all six meetings, including Vermont's 16-6 last year on Virtue Field.  

SCOUTING VERMONT
Vermont enters Saturday at 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the America East. The Catamounts are averaging 10.8 goals per game and allowing just 11.2 goals per game. Vermont has held all four of its America East opponents to 10 goals or less. Brock Haley leads the team with 40 points and David Closterman has chipped in 30. Tommy Burke is winning 64 percent of his faceoffs, ranking in the top 10 nationally.

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs are 8-2 for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs are also 4-0 in America East play following a 20-16 win over UAlbany last week. 
  • Bryant has started 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2018.  
  • Bryant ranks fifth nationally in scoring offense with 15.7 goals per game. The Bulldogs are averaging over 18 goals per game in league play.
  • The Bulldogs have five players with 30+ points, the first time that's happened since 2013-14 (Coach Ross' last season as an assistant). 
  • Kevin Groeninger paces the group with 42 points, while Johnny Hackett (29-9-38), Aidan Goltz (23-12-35), Jack Lonsinger (31-2-33) and Timmy Hackett (16-17-33) all have 30+.
  • Groeninger is coming off a career-high five-goal performance vs UAlbany. 
  • Hackett and Lonsinger continue to be two of the top scoring freshmen in all of college lacrosse.
  • Nathan Laliberte ranks second behind Burke in faceoff winning percentage in the America East, winning 62 percent at the X.
