Men's soccer hosts George Washington

BULLDOGS WELCOME GW SUNDAY IN THE FIRST A OF FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer returns home after a two-game road trip to host George Washington University on Sunday morning (11 a.m.) at Sutton Field.

The Bulldogs (0-2-1) enter the game in search of their first win of 2012 after being rained out halfway through their match at Holy Cross last Saturday. The Colonials (3-2) are coming off a 2-0 victory over Liberty on Sunday in the Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament.

Over the weekend, the Black and Gold ran into more bad luck with Mother Nature as their match against Holy Cross was postponed at halftime. Entering the break, the Crusaders led, 1-0, however a game must be played for at least 70:00 of the scheduled 90 minutes to be counted toward the team's records.

The lone goal of the match came in the 17th minute when junior Kevin O'Connell blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the right side of the net, granting the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage. Plans to resume the match are yet to be determined.

This marks the second game for the Bulldogs that has been rained out, the first being the Florida Atlantic game in Boca Raton, Fla., on August 26.

George Washington enters Sunday's action with a 3-2 record after being selected to finish sixth in the Atlantic-10 Preseason Coaches Poll. The Colonials return 14 letterwinners and six starters from last season's squad, which posted a 10-6-3 overall record and a share of the A-10 regular-season crown. Through the first five games, 2011 A-10 First-Team selection Seth Rudolph leads the team with four points on two goals. The Colonials defeated Northeast Conference foe LIU Brooklyn in their season-opener, 1-0, in double overtime.

The two teams met last September in Washington, D.C., with GW scoring in the 89th minute to win, 3-2. Bryant sophomore Connor Norat (Wilmington, Del.) recorded his first collegiate goal in the contest. The Bulldogs will be out for revenge on Sunday when they welcome the Colonials to Smithfield in search of their first win of the year.
