Larocque, Binder score in 2-0 win at UNH Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a pair of second half goals, the Bryant University men's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2014 season with a 2-0 win over New Hampshire, Sunday evening at Bremner Field.

After a tough, physical test on Friday vs. Providence, the Bulldogs (1-1) looked sharp on Sunday, posting a clean sheet on a Wildcat (0-2) team still in search of their first win of the year.

With both team scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play, junior forward Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) scored Bryant's first marker of the young season less than three minutes into the second half with a rocket from 20 yards out that ricocheted off the crossbar and into the back of the net. The goal also marked the first-career assist for keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine), who set up his classmate for the score.

Getting outshot in the first frame, the Black and Gold were much more assertive in the second period, outshooting the opposition, 7-6, and earning three more corners, 4-1, in the final 45 minutes of play. The attacking mindset eventually paid off when freshman Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria) and sophomore Curtis Orth (Ancaster, Ont.) connected in the 81st minute for the rookie's first-career marker, securing the 2-0 Bulldog victory in the process.

Knaub made five saves in his first win of the year, while UNH keeper Travis Worra stopped two of Bryant's four shots on goal.

Looking ahead, the Black and Gold will remain on the road over the weekend, heading north to Buffalo, N.Y., for matches at Buffalo (Friday) and at Canisius (Sunday).
