Larocque scores twice but Bulldogs fall at Canisius

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite junior forward Brett Larocque's (Ottawa, Ont.) fourth career two-goal effort, the Bryant University men's soccer dropped its second-straight double overtime match, 3-2, Sunday at Canisius.

After Friday's heartbreaker, a Bulldog (1-3) victory on Sunday seemed imminent, as the visitors took a 2-0 lead into the 75th minute, but scores by the Golden Griffins (2-2) in the 76th minute and the 86th minute pushed the match into overtime where the hosts eventual prevailed in the 103rd minute.

The Black and Gold got things going in the 35th minute when Ryan Rose (Acton, Mass.) found Larocque behind the defense for his second marker of the year. The junior forward added one more less than four minutes later when freshmen Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria) found the head of Larocque from the corner, beatng GK Andrew Coughlin in the 39th minute to grant Bryant the early 2-0 edge.

The score stood at 2-0 for the nearly 40 minutes until Asani Samuels put Canisius on the board off a rebound in the 76th minute to cut the Bryant lead in half. Just under 10 minutes later, Anthony Mandola netted the equalizer off a header from Thomas Teupen and Ryan Schroen to send the game into OT.

In the second overtime, the Griffs completed the dramatic comeback in the 103rd minute thanks to a Nicolo Baudo rebound and score.

Bryant keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) made eight saves despite the loss, while Coughlin stopped a pair of Bryant SOG's in the win.

Bryant returns to action on Thursday (4 p.m.) when they host UMasll Lowell in Smithfield, where they will play six of the next seven matches.
