Larocque dazzles in 4-2 win over Hartwick Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a huge five-point performance from junior forward Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.), the Bryant University men's soccer team knocked off Hartwick, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Field.

Larocque put up a career-high five points to help the Bulldogs (4-4-1) stay unbeaten in their last three matches while the Hawks (0-6-3) remain winless on the 2014 season.

After digging themselves holes in the last few matches, the Black and Gold wasted little time getting out in front on Sunday when Larocque found a streaking Jake Lamar (New Haven, Conn.) inside the box where Lamar headed home his first of the season in the fifth minute.

Larocque found the back of the net himself in the 34th minute when a great individual effort from junior Marco Addonizio (Lynnfield, Mass.) set up his classmate for a header to the near post to double the Bryant edge, 2-0. Addonizio added a marker of his own for good measure in the in 40th minute when a Bryant throw in was deflected inside the box, corralled by Addonizio and into the back of the net.

Down 3-0, Hartwick quickly responded in the 45th minute when Mike Rood converted on a 2-on-1 on a pass from Marc Russell, just before Marc Berry put home his first-career goal in the 50th minute to cut a once commanding Bryant edge to just a single goal.

However, the Bulldogs, who essentially dominated play for almost the entire 90 minutes secured the victory with Larocque's second tally of the match off an assist from sophomore Pedro-Lucas Ferreira (East Boston, Mass.).

Despite allowing the two goals, Bryant keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) was strong between the pipes making five saves in his third win of the year.

With non-conference play wrapped up, the Bulldogs will open Northeast Conference play on Friday, Oct. 10 when they host Robert Morris in a 3 p.m. tilt in Smithfield.
