Bulldogs look to stay perfect Saturday at Sacred Heart

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off an impressive opening weekend of Northeast Conference play, the Bryant University men's soccer team continues league action on Saturday when they visit Sacred Heart for a 1 p.m. tilt in Fairfield, Conn.

The Bulldogs, who haven't lost a match since Sept. 14, are 4-0-1 in their last five matches, earning themselves the number nine ranking in the NSCAA Northeast Men's Soccer poll earlier this week. Most importantly however, the Black and Gold are 2-0 in NEC play, and alone in first place in the NEC standings, for the first time in program history coming off a pair of 1-0 victories over Robert Morris and Saint Francis U. over the weekend.

On Saturday, Bryant will face off with a struggling Pioneer squad still in search of their first win of the 2014 season (0-11-1). Most recently, SHU fell to St. Francis Brooklyn and Central Connecticut to open league play over the weekend. The Pioneers, who have been outscored 28-8 on the year, are led by a trio of five-point scorers in Ermir Celaj, Mahmoud Kafel, and Jamal Vinson, while junior Tucker Hackeet has logged 1100 minutes in net, allowing 2.29 goals per match. Last year in Smithfield, the Bulldogs picked up a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart behind a goal from Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) in the 39th minute.
