Kane named NEC Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman forward Matthew Kane (Lincoln, R.I.) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 2-0 win, the league announced Monday.

Kane scored the second of the Bulldogs' goals in their defeat of Fairleigh Dickinson when he finished off a scramble in the box that had three shots on net, with the latter going off the foot of the freshman and into the bottom right corner of the net.

The goal came on Kane's only shot of the afternoon and just his second shot of the season. He also made his third appearance in the last four games after not playing in the first five and is becoming a bigger part of head coach Seamus Purcell's gameplan as NEC play rolls on.

Kane's honor is the first weekly award for the Bulldogs this season and is the first rookie of the week honoree since Oliver Larente (Garches, France) won it on October 24, 2016. He is also the first position player to win an NEC weekly honor since Connor Norat in 2013.

The Bulldogs resume conference play when they trek to western Pennsylvania this weekend to take on Robert Morris on Friday and Saint Francis U on Sunday.
