Purcell announces Class of 2022

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's soccer head coach Seamus Purcell has announced his Class of 2022, introducing five new guys to the program.

"I'm very excited about this incoming class," Purcell said. "I think we've addressed a wide variety of needs in regards to positions with this group. Every one of these players has played at a very high level and will be challenging our upper class-men for some serious playing time."

Casey Brine | Defender | Kirkland, Wash.

Before Bryant: Three-year letterwinner at Lake Washington … League runners up in KingCo 3A at 12-2 his junior season … named captain for his senior year by head coach Rod Smith … All-KingCo 3A First Team as a junior … WIAA 3A All-State Honorable Mention … played club with Greater Seattle Surf 99 A.

Jared Bull | Midfielder | Shrewsbury, Mass.

Before Bryant: Played three years of high school at Algonquin Regional before playing in the ECNL his senior season … two-time Massachusetts State Cup Champion … one of three players selected for US Region I Pool in both 2015 and 2016 … played club with FC Boston Bolts of the ECNL.

Mason Danielson | Defender | Coventry, Conn.

Before Bryant: Three-year starter, four-year letterwinner at Coventry … 2016 Class S State Champion after an 18-3 record … 2015 Class S State Finalist … 17 career assists from the back line … helped defense earn 15 shutouts his junior season … played club at North East United.

Lucas Johnstone | Forward | Holderness, N.H.

Before Bryant: Four-year starter for the Bobcats at Plymouth Regional … Finished 37-15 in his high school career … Leading goal scorer in his final two years … Second Team All-State in his senior season … Also lettered four years in ski racing, ski jumping, cross country skiing and tennis.

Blake Rutenberg | Forward | Farmington, Conn.

Before Bryant: Four-year starter for head coach Steve Waters at Farmington … qualified for Class LL semifinals all four year … won Class LL State Championship as a junior and finished No. 16 in the country … won Larry Briggs Award for Class LL State MVP in 2016 … two-time CCC Champion in 2014 and 2015.
