Bulldogs head to Long Island for Saturday night match with Stony Brook

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a draw with nationally-ranked Fordham to earn its first point of the season, the Bryant University men's soccer team is off to Long Island for a Saturday night battle with Stony Brook.

The Series

Stony Brook has taken all three matches in a series that dates back to 2009. The Seawolves won last year's edition 1-0 and the only match on Long Island came in 2010, which went 2-1 in favor of the hosts.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • Freshman Ben Williams (Unionville, Ontario) scored the game's opening goal in the 84th minute on Saturday evening, only for Fordham to tie matters five minutes later, giving the game its final scoreline at 1-1.
  • Williams is the third different goalscorer for the Bulldogs this season, joining sophomores Charles DeSantis (Saint-Mathias-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada) and Antonio Terceros (Toronto, Ontario). DeSantis leads all Bulldogs with three points on the season.
  • At 10 shots on the year, DeSantis is at the top of the team leaderboard in the category, while Terceros leads Bryant with four shots on frame this season.
  • In net, junior Olivier Larente (Garches, France) has played all 470 minutes, with a 2.30 goals-against average and .571 save percentage on his resume.

A bit about the Seawolves

  • Stony Brook enters the weekend at 2-3-1 on the season, after surrendering two second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to Long Island rival Hofstra on Wednesday night.
  • This is the fifth of seven non-conference home games for the Seawolves. They have already defeated NEC favorite St. Francis Brooklyn 2-0 this season at home and will play Sacred Heart on September 25.
  • Senior Serge Gamwanya leads the offense with three goals to his name this season. Classmate Martieon Watson has dished off three assists to lead the squad, while junior Jared Dass has also chipped in a pair of goals.
  • In goal, freshman Christian Miesch has played all 560 minutes for the Seawolves, recording a 1.29 goals-against average and .733 save percentage.
