Bryant opens conference play with Robert Morris, Saint Francis U at home

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team rounds out its three-game homestand this weekend with a Northeast Conference doubleheader, hosting Robert Morris on Friday and Saint Francis U on Sunday.

The Series

Bryant is unbeaten in all ten matches with the Colonials, winning six and drawing four with Robert Morris. Sophomore John Amaya (Rye, N.Y.) equalized in the 72nd minute of last year's match, helping the Bulldogs earn a 1-1 draw in Moon Township, Pa.

A bit about the Colonials

  • Robert Morris enters the matchup at 2-6-1 on the season and is coming off their first road win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Howard on Saturday afternoon.
  • Kai Olguin scored the winner in the match, his first of the season. Zac Sherman assisted, recording his eighth point of the season, which leads the team.

The Series

Saint Francis has won five of the nine meetings between the squads, including a 1-0 victory a season ago after falling down to 10 men. The teams drew 1-1 in the most recent meeting in Smithfield, back in 2016.

A bit about the Red Flash

  • Saint Francis U is unbeaten in three of their last four matches, including a 2-2 tie in their most recent match against Cal State Fullerton. In a frantic final 15 minutes, Saint Francis scored two goals, both to tie up the score, to ensure a point on the West Coast.
  • Mario Mastrangelo, the team's leading scorer, tied the match once and for all in the 89th minute. He now has four goals and five assists on the season, totaling 13 points.
  • Kevin Smolyn and Gabriel Castro each have four points on their 2018 resume.
  • In net, Alex Morgret has started five matches, with a 1.15 goals-against average and .650 save percentage to his name.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is in the midst of a three-game homestand, which started nine days ago against Yale.
  • Youngsters are leading the way for the Bulldogs, as sophomore Charles DeSantis (Saint-Mathias-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada) and freshman Ben Williams (Unionville, Ontario) each have three points to their name this season.
  • Sophomores Jared Lee (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Antonio Terceros (Toronto, Ontario) also have goals on the 2018 campaign.
  • Between the posts, junior Olivier Larente (Garches, France) has a 2.53 goals-against average on the season with a .583 save percentage.
