Bulldogs continue homestand with Minutemen Tuesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team plays the second game in a five game homestand when it takes on the University of Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

The Series

This is the second meeting between the Bulldogs and the Minutemen, with the first ending in a victory for UMass when they blanked Bryant last year 3-0.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs suffered a 3-2 heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Howard on Sunday. The game was tied 2-2 going into the last five minutes of the game but the Bison took the lead with a late strike in the 85th minute.
  • Senior Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) scored his first goal in a Bryant uniform tying the game in the 65th minute after he charged down the field and fired one into the net.
  • Sophomore Ben Williams (Unionville, Ontario) has the most shots, goals and points for the Bulldogs with 11 shots, three goals and seven points. He scored his third goal on Sunday and has scored the last three games.
  • Sophomore Jared Lee (South Setauket, N.Y.) had his first start of the season for the Bulldogs in Sunday's game and freshman Jake Spaulding (Topsfield, Mass.) had his first career appearance in the fourth quarter.
  • Senior Olivier Larente (LaSalle, Montreal) has a 2.00 goals-against average in 360 minutes between the posts, totaling 12 saves on the season.

A bit about the Minutemen.

  • The Minutemen are coming off a 6-0 defeat of NEC opponent Central Connecticut on Saturday night, giving them a 4-1 record on the season.
  • Each of the team's six goals were scored in the second half by five different players. Graham Brenner led the team with two goals on the night and totals three on his 2019 resume.
  • Along with Brenner, seven other players have chipped in goals this season for UMass.
  • The team's lone loss comes from a 1-0 Dartmouth victory last Tuesday.
  • Goalkeeper Marvyn Dorchin has played all 450 minutes for the Minutemen, boasting an impressive 0.20 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.
