Coach Resendes announces staff for Bryant Men's Soccer

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Head coach Ruben Resendes of the Bryant University men's soccer team is excited to announce the hiring of his staff for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Brendan Pacheco, Andre Martins, and Josep Silvestre will be named assistant coaches. Dave Walsh will serve as the director of quality control.

This coaching staff aided coach Resendes and Franklin Pierce to a 21-1-1 overall record and a National Championship in 2022. They were named the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year and East Region Staff of the Year. Under this staff's tutelage, the Ravens were 66-5-4 between 2019-22.

"Our men's soccer program is very fortunate to welcome Brendan, Andre, Josep, & Dave to the Bulldog family! From a technical standpoint, the dynamic within this staff is very complimentary based on our characteristics both as coaches and people", said coach Resendes. "More importantly, I've seen firsthand how much each one of these guys is willing to sacrifice for and commit to their student-athletes without hesitation, and that's what makes this group so special. I consider each of them family, and I am very lucky to have the opportunity to continue working alongside such great coaches and people".

Pacheco served as an associate head coach at Franklin Pierce for four years. Pacheco helped guide the Ravens to a national championship in 2022. The program won back-to-back NE-10 regular season and tournament championships, and Pacheco was part of a staff named the East Region Staff of the Year for three-straight years.  As a player,  Pacheco put together a decorated career at the former junior college powerhouse as Dean transitioned to NCAA Division III status during his time as a Bulldog. He was the 2017 National Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year, as awarded by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), a national governing body at the junior college level. In 2016, he helped backstop a team that ranked first in the nation in goals against, goals-against average, and shutouts on the way to a berth in the national tournament. Dean returned to the national tournament in 2017 and advanced to the national semifinal.

Martins spent one year at Franklin Piece, where he was the first-team assistant coach and the head coach of the reserve team. Previously he was a staff coach for Baltimore Union Soccer Club, where he led the 2005 Boy's Elite Team. In addition, Martins was a Physical Education Instructor at Saint Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and a staff coach for the local Rhode Island soccer club, Bruno United FC.

Silvestre played three years at Franklin Pierce before becoming an assistant coach last season. As a player, Silvestre started in 28 games and played in a total of 40. He was named a captain in his graduate year and recorded two assists.

Walsh spent four years at Franklin Pierce as an assistant coach. Walsh brings over 30 years of experience as a player, coach, and official with him to Rindge. He played four years for Barrington College as a goalkeeper and was named All-Conference, All-New England, and USCAA All-America in his junior and senior years. He is ranked first in the school's history for goals-against average and career shutouts.
