Black and Gold defeat Stonehill 4-0 with second half attack

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - On Tuesday night the Bryant University men's soccer team took down the Stonehill Skyhawks 4-0 in Smithfield.

The Bulldogs improve to 5-0 and continue their best start in recorded program history with the win.

Coach's comments on the home win...

"It was a really difficult first half. Stonehill did a good job defensively and on the counter attack. Our guys did well to stay true to the proccess. Once the first goal came things opened up a bit. We did a nice job wearing them down in possession which opened up more opportunites to score throughout the half."

  •  46th minute - Bryant 1, Stonehill 0 - After beating a defender, Gustavo Rodriguez found himself with plenty of space to unleash a screamer into the top left corner from 20 yards out.
  • 58th minute - Bryant 2, Stonehill 0 - Vicente Valor Martinez was able to find Javier Soler Gandia on one of the teams ten corners in the game. Soler rose above the Stonehill defenders and headed the ball home into the left corner.
  • 73rd minute - Bryant 3, Stonehill 0 - Adrian Camacho found Inigo Villaldea with a short pass at the top of the 18-yd box. Villaldea then finished the ball into the bottom right corner past the outstretched arm of the Stonehill goalkeeper.
  • 76th minute - Bryant 4, Stonehill 0 - Jaiden Willems was able to find Luis Fernando Paúl with a cross-field pass on the counter attack. Paúl was then able to run past a defender and slot the ball just off the post and into the bottom left corner.

Notes and Notables

  • The win means that Bryant has matched their longest win streak in program history which was set in 2019.
  • The Bulldogs are now the only undefeated team in the America East.
  • The goals by Rodriguez and Villaldea were their first in the Black and Gold.
  • Willems notched his first assist of the season on the goal by Paúl.
  • Seven different Bulldogs tallied at least a point in the match.
  • Goalie Antreas Hadjigavriel did not have to make a save in the contest.
