Villaldea tallies two in 4-0 home win over URI

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's soccer team continued their winning ways on Tuesday night with a 4-0 victory over the University of Rhode Island Rams.

The Bulldogs are now 7-0 and have yet to allow a goal on the season.

Coach's comments on the home victory...

"It's always great to score early, it helps ease the pressure and gives the team confidence. URI had some dangerous moments in the ifrst half and beginning of the second half. I was proud of the strength our guys showed in those moments ot protec thte clean sheet. We felt we were a bit conservative in the attack in the first half. At halftime we spoke about being more aggressive and trying to create more chances and the guys certainly did that

  • 1st minute - Bryant 1, URI 0 - Adrian Camacho nutmegged a defender and dribbled the ball down the right sideline. He then sent in a cross to the far side of the 18-yard box. Inigo Villadea found the bouncing ball and volleyed it into the lower left corner with his right boot.
  • 50th minute - Bryant 2, URI 0 - Luis Fernando Paúl played a lofted ball to a racing Villaldea. Villadea then let the ball run into the 6-yard box where he volleyed it with his left foot into the lower right corner.
  • 63rd minute - Bryant 3, URI 0 - Marc Pitarch corralled a loose ball in the 18-yard box with one touch and then sent the ball into the top right bin.
  • 81st minute - Bryant 4, URI 0 - Pablo Ablanedo cleared the ball from the Bulldogs half of the field and to the top of the 18-yard box. A miscommunication between the goalie and the defender led to the URI defenseman heading the ball into the goal for the Bulldogs.

  • Bryant's first goal was their fastest of the season to date.
  • The Black and Gold have now scored in the first half in five of their seven games.
  • Villaldea's brace brings his goal total for the year to three.
  • Camacho's assist puts him second on the team in the category with three dishes.
