BRYANT MEN’S SWIMMING SINKS RAMS SATURDAY AFTERNOON, 143.00-92.00

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After putting forth their top performance of the 2010-11 season last weekend, the Bryant University men's swimming team delivered once again with a 143.00-92.00 victory over intrastate rival University of Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

Combined with the women's 119 points, Bryant was able to defeat Rhode Island by a combined score of 262.00-231.00.

The Black and Gold received a number of stellar performances but none more than senior Steve Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.) who shattered the school record in the in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a time of 54.64.

The Bulldogs success continued as the 8x50 Medley Relay team of Cameron Hessler (Southbury, Conn.), Steve Sinclair (Middleton, Mass.), Alex Dropo (Sandwich, Mass.) a nd Sean Martell (Nashua, NH)captured first place with a time of 3:22.89 in the early going of the meet.

Brian Brennan (Beverly, Mass.) and Nguyen took the 200-yard freestyle event, finishing first and second respectively. Brennan record a time of 1:48.31 while Nguyen finished just four hundredths of a second behind with a mark of 1:48.77

Joining Brennan as a first-place finisher was Jim DeLucia (Waterbury, Conn.), who captured the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 23.25.

Martell also recorded an individual top-spot with a time of 2:19.51 in the 200-yard breastroke and was part of a unit that took first in the 3x100-yard breastroke relay with a time of 3:18.47.

The Bulldogs are scheduled for their mid-season training trip and will return to action Saturday, January 15th for a tri-meet with NJIT and Saint Francis (NY).
