BRYANT MEN FALL AGAINST STONY BROOK, 143-119, ON SENIOR DAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming team dropped it's senior day matchup with Stony Brook, 143.0-119.0,  Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

Cameron Hessler (Southbury, Conn.), Alex Kosenksi (Lavallette, N.J.) and Nicholas Karadimas (New Milford, Conn.) each recorded a first-place finish for the Bulldogs in the 100-yard fly, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, respectively. But the joint effort could not oust Stony Brook, who received several strong performances, including Sean Hardick's pool-record 2:00.97 time in the 200-yard individual medley.

Senior Steve Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.) completed his final home meet with a solid showing, as the California native touched the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:10.17. Nguyen also recorded a second-place spot in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard individual medley.

Joining Nguyen as the only other senior on the men's side was Matt Derwin (Cheshire, Conn.) who finished off his final home meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.01.

Nguyen, Karadimas, Kosenski and Nathan Lee (Monson, Mass.) all qualified for the ECAC Championships with their performances against Stony Brook, and now will be able to compete at the February meet in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Bulldogs travel to Dartmouth Jan. 28 before closing out their regular season at Holy Cross on Feb. 5.
