Beck sets second record on day two of MAACs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) continued his historic postseason performance by winning a silver medal in the 100 breast and helping the 200 medley relay team to a new school record on day two of the MAAC Championships Friday.

The Bulldogs have accumulated 242 points and are currently in sixth place after two days. Rider is in first with 533 points and Marist is in second with 493. Canisius (393), Saint Peter's (268) and Niagara (244) round out the top five.

After an outstanding performance on day one, Beck was even better on Friday, helping set two program records. He started by helping the 200 medley relay team of Cameron Hessler (Southbury, Conn.), Joshua Bjornberg (Wallingford, Conn.) and Pierre Le Guyader (East Islip, N.Y.) finish fourth with a school-record time of 1:32.74. Later in the meet, he set his second individual school record and won his first career medal by finishing second in the 100 breast with a time of 56.40, just one hundredth of a second behind the gold medalist.

Several other Bulldogs also delivered outstanding performances on day two. Senior Nicholas Karadimas (New Milford, Conn.) finished fifth in the 200 free (1:41.83) a day after earning a medal in the 50 free. Kevin Hong (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Andrew Neggia (Ramsey, N.J.) finished ninth (4:08.91) and 10th (4:11.62) in the 400 IM, and Robert Beauchemin (Holliston, Mass.) added a 15th-place finish (4:22.30) in the event. Joining Beck in the 100 breast was Bjornberg (ninth, 57.94) and Gary Enoksen (Islip, N.Y.) (16th, 1:00.83). Bjornberg also added an 11th-place finish in the 100 fly (51.61) and Conor Makepeace (Wallingford, Conn.) and Ian Miller (Meriden, Conn.) finished 14th (195.35) and 16th (166.35), respectively, in the three meter dive.

Day three of the championships begins on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
