Bulldogs pick up first win Friday night over Providence, 184-104

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) and freshman Robert Davis (Glastonbury, Conn.) combined to win five individual events to lead the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team to a commanding 184-104 victory over Providence College on Friday night.

The Bulldogs improve to 1-1 during the dual meet season with the victory. Bryant won both relays, both diving events and all but three individual events on the night.

Schulte won the 100 free, 200 breast and the 200 IM. He finished with a time of 53.29 in the 100 free, 2:26.30 in the 200 breast and 2:13.33 in the 200 IM. Davis won the 200 free with a time of 2:00.86 and the 400 free with a time of 4:18.43.

Bryant also received first-place finishes from Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.), Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.) and Shane Vyskocil (Parsippany, N.J.). Curtin won the 800 free (9:05.30) and the 100 back (58.87), and finished second in the 200 back (2:12.95). Boyle won the 100 breast (1:07.59) and Vyskocil won the 200 fly (2:16.53).

On the boards, Zach Vogel (South Easton, Mass.) and Kevin Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn.) finished 1-2 in the 1 meter dives. Vogel won both events with scores of 235.43 and 218.25, while Sullivan finished second with scores of 207.75 and 209.85.

In the relays, Curtin, Boyle, Boris Paralitcci (Saunderstown, R.I.) and George Sommerville (Pittsfield, Mass.) combined to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.21. Davis, Damian Parzych (Farmington, Conn.), Zachary Hannon (Marlborough, Mass.) and Schulte combined to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:38.95.  

The Bulldogs open their home schedule on Saturday night when they welcome the University of Maine to the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
