Bulldogs tie Iona, 144-144, Saturday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.) won a pair of events as the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team swam to a tie, 144-144, against MAAC rival Iona on Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y.

It is the Bulldogs' first tie since making the jump to Division I. Bryant is now 2-1-1 in dual meets this season.

Boyle took home individual victories in the 100 breast (59.36) and the 200 breast (2:12.51). Junior Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) also took home a pair of victories, winning the 200 IM (1:57.12) and the 100 free (47.58).

Bryant also received strong performances from freshmen Robert Davis (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Cyrus Nabavi (Murray, Ky.), and junior Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.). Davis finished second in the 1000 free (9:49.25), Nabavi finished second in the 100 fly (53.61) and Curtin tied for first in the 100 back (53.40) and second in the 200 back (2:00.33).

The Bulldogs also took home all the points in the diving events. Kevin Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn.) won the 1 meter (199.20) and the 3 meter dives (200.77). Zach Vogel (Wayne, N.J.) posted scores of 177.97 and 174.75, respectively.

 Bryant will have a 14 days off before returning to the pool on Nov. 12 at Brown.
