Bulldogs roll past Iona for fourth straight win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team finished off its homestand the way they started it after taking down Iona 168-94 on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

Coach Cameron's Comments

"They feed off of that energy. We talked about 144-144 every day this week to the point where it was probably overdone, but they understood the urgency and they remembered how it felt a year ago to end in that score and they wanted to make sure that didn't happen again."

Key Moment

  • In just the second event, the Bulldogs were able to distance themselves from Iona, when Robert Davis (Glastonbury, Conn.), Charlie Broe (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Oliver French (Nashua, N.H.) finished 1-2-3 in the 1000 free, taking 16 of the available 19 points.

How the Swimmers Did

  • Freshman Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) won all four of his races again, making him 15-for-16 to start his career and 11-for-11 in his individual events.
  • Davis added a second-place finish in the 500 free later in the meet.
  • Andrew Allen (Bedford, N.H.) won all four of his races, taking part in the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams and the 50 free and 100 free individual events.
  • Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) added an individual victory in the 100 back.
  • Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) won all four of his races as well, taking home first place in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 free relay.

Stats and Notables

  • The Bulldogs only lost two of the 14 races on the afternoon.
  • Bryant was able to bounce back from last year's 144-144 tie in New Rochelle.
  • The Bulldogs won seven races in a row to further widen the margin as the meet progressed.
