Mays, Schulte highlight strong Bryant showing at US Winter Nationals

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Senior Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) and freshman Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) both secured "C" Final positions in a good showing for the Bryant University men's swimming and diving at the 2017 AT&T USA Swimming Winter National Championships at Ohio State.

Coach Cummiskey's Comments

"The guys had some great swims throughout the weekend. They swam season-best times against some great competition from all over the country. I think they got to experience a great atmosphere and it will help push them through the next month of training as they set their eyes on MAAC Championships."

Friday Recap

• Schulte and senior Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.) swam the first event for Bryant swimmers, the 100 breast. Schulte clocked in at 55.34, good for T19 and qualification in the C final. Boyle finished the race in a time of 58.69.
• In the next men's race, Mays and junior Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) raced in the 100 back. Mays finished in 50.86, with Curtin clocking in at 51.54.
• In the finals session that night, Schulte improved on his time from the morning and finished just 0.08 off the top spot at 55.02.

Saturday Recap

• Mays was the first to swim, finishing the 200 back in 1:49.20, good for 17^th in the event and 0.30 behind a B Final appearance. That time qualified him for the C final.
• Schulte finished his 200 breast race in 2:05.02.
• Mays finished the Bulldogs' appearance at the event with a 1:53.61 swim of the 200 fly.
